Preponderance of Evidence -- Read how Shirley Berens Director
of the Grandparents Resource Center won her case against Human Services
and the Attorney General's Office of the State of Colorado and received
an apology.
As we follow the struggles
of grandparents trying to gain custody of their grandchildren
or adopting grandchildren, we find that Frana
Mace, a grandmother, has won a seat in the state legislature!!!!
Rep. Frana Mace co-sponsored and helped pass House Bill 99-1218.
The bill was authored by attorney Pam Gordon, who works with
a lot of our grandparents in Colorado. HB 99-1218 will now allow
grand-parents in Colorado to adopt their grandchildren after they
have had custody of them for a year or more.
TANF Subsidy
The Denver Department of
Social Services is working hard
to increase the TANF subsidy
to care-
taker families. This is in response to the growing needs
of grandparents and their plight in raising their
grandchildren.
Thanks to Phil Hernandez, Manager of DDSS and his associates.
More can be done to make
life better for our grandparents. But, until that happens, the
GRC will continue to collaborate with the Department of Social
Services and other community service agencies to provide needed
assistance to our grandparents and relatives raising children.
